Perched on the rim of Tanzania’s spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, the Ngorongoro Lodge Meliá offers guests one of the world’s most unforgettable panoramas. The 600 metre deep crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to more than 25,000 animals and over 2.5 million years of natural history.

We are thrilled that this unique hotel, that enjoys unbeatable views over the world’s largest volcanic caldera, chose Herschel Infrared as its heating solution. The installation at the Ngorongoro Lodge Meliá, Tanzania, is particularly special to Herschel as the heaters used were the very first Comfort range heaters to be manufactured within our UK production Facility. They are also our first infrared heaters to be installed within Africa.

Solution

Herschel Infrared supplied a complete, sustainable electric heating solution. The heaters were installed in Summer 2023.

Herschel Comfort infrared panels were installed throughout the guest bedrooms, providing gentle, even warmth while preserving floor space and uninterrupted crater views. Comfort panels have been designed to deliver the perfect balance of design, efficiency and environmental responsibility;
Herschel Summit heaters were fitted in the dining areas to ensure consistent, comfortable warmth during cool mornings and evenings;
Herschel Florida heaters extend the experience outdoors, delivering subtle radiant warmth across the exterior restaurant and outdoor terrace areas.

Visiting the Crater Rim

In June 2025, we visited Ngorongoro Lodge Meliá to see the installation and results firsthand.
