Electric heating for offices

Background

William Leach was looking at infrared heating for his holiday cottage business. He also wanted electric heating for his offices so he initially installed Herschel Infrared within the office space before going on to subsequently convert the holiday cottages to infrared. The existing heating within the office was wall-mounted convectional, electric panel heaters and a fan heater in the bathroom.

Solution

Three Summit White heaters have been ceiling mounted throughout the office. The heaters are thermostatically controlled by an MD2 thermostat which offers the App-enabled control William was seeking, via the SmartLife App. A Select XLS White panel heats the bathroom.

It's also freed up some warm space, we used to have convectional panel heaters on the walls..... which were very expensive to run, very difficult to control but also left you with a pillow of hot air at the top of the room whilst while you were sitting at your desk, especially your feet on the tiled floor would be very cold. This is giving off a really nice, constant heat .....and the really nice thing is they are controlled by a thermostat but we actually don't use this as we have the Apps on our phone whereby we can adjust the schedule or boost, if necessary. It's a really smart, stylish system from Herschel and results in even the flooring being quite warm whereas before you couldn't take your shoes off in this office because the tiles were so cold.........it's a really pleasant heat throughout and it's a big upgrade and hopefully a big energy saving.

“We received some grant funding from Low Carbon Workspaces [regional grant scheme]. This is designed for businesses and involved demonstrating existing old equipment then explaining how potential savings could be made with new equipment (in our case this was mainly by incorporating smart, zonal thermostats and also because infrared is proven to be less susceptible to draughts and thermal leaks. We also upgraded our office lighting as part of the application”.
