Frequently Asked Questions
Our heaters are simple to install by any certified electrician or installer who is familiar with infrared heating in commercial buildings to ensure:
- Proper sizing and positioning of heaters and cabling
- Electrical safety compliance and certifications
- Integration with controls or BMS
Please contact Herschel if you would like further assistance.
Costs vary depending on:
- Size and number of zones/heaters
- Control system complexity
- Mounting type (ceiling, wall, suspended) and any access equipment required
- Installation costs in your region
- Any requirement to upgrade the electrical supply to the site
A proper site survey from a recommended commercial electrician, like InterRay, who are part of the Herschel group of companies, will give an accurate quote.
Electric Infrared heaters have very low maintenance:
- There are no moving parts or fluid systems
- Occasional dusting or cleaning of heaters may be required when they are turned off if there is significant wood dust or similar materials that could rest on the heaters. Ensuring a fully operational extract system in these spaces will be important.
- Control systems may need firmware or software support updates
- No annual servicing like boilers is required although an annual check on the system via the offsite controls or an onsite review of heating elements and connections could be included as part of a maintenance package
Minimal disruption is involved, and installation is generally straightforward. Planning routes for electrical cables to connect the heaters and control system to the electrical distribution boards will be key considerations. Often, access platforms or scaffold will be required to run the cabling to the required positions.
There is no ductwork, gas or oil connections or wet systems involved.
Work can often be scheduled outside key working hours or at weekends and phased over a period to minimise disruption.
Wall or ceiling-mounted infrared systems in commercial spaces are quick to install in comparison to convection and central plant systems like heat pumps.
It depends on the system size, type of heaters selected (for example our Vulcan heaters require a 3-phase supply) and the overall number of heaters.
For small to medium size installations and spot/zone heating of smaller areas, often a single-phase is sufficient.
However, for larger commercial spaces with high heating demand and where other electrical appliances/machinery is being used: 3-phase may be recommended to spread the electrical load more efficiently across the phases. Please consult your electrician who will be able to advise.
Commissioning typically includes:
- Power connection and safety checks
- Configuration of controls, sensors, and timers to follow the requirements of the end users
- Testing all zones to ensure effective operation
- Training for staff or facility managers on usage and control
- Obtaining the installation certificates from the installer
