Heating a commercial office and showroom space – Lightsource

Lightsource, a leading lighting design firm based in Belfast, specialises in high-end lighting projects for hotels, offices and residential spaces. In 2015, as Lightsource expanded its services and began receiving inquiries about heating options, they established a partnership with Herschel Infrared. Herschel has provided energy efficient heating solutions for multiple Lightsource projects.

In 2020, Lightsource moved into their showroom and office space, located in the historic Portview Trade Centre in East Belfast, using Herschel heaters to heat both the showroom and office space. Known as the ‘Engine Room’, the showroom boasts solid stone walls, single-pane windows, and eight-metre-high ceilings, meaning the space was large and a challenging environment to effectively heat. Due to a conservation order, modern insulation measures are prohibited, presenting a unique heating challenge.

Herschel Infrared’s UK-Made Advantage IR3 heaters were chosen as the optimal solution to efficiently and effectively heat the showroom and office space. Unlike traditional heating methods which rely on heating the air, Herschel’s infrared technology heats surfaces directly. This targeted approach offers several advantages, especially in environments like the Engine Room, where convection-based heating would struggle due to the high ceilings and limited insulation.

The Advantage IR3 heaters also fit the space aesthetically, matching the industrial feel of the historic Engine Room. With zero light, the Advantage IR3’s are non-intrusive, and require no maintenance or servicing.

Black Advantage IR2 infrared heaters were used to heat the office and reception spaces. Made in Herschel’s state-of-the-art UK Production Facility, the Advantage IR is available in black or white and in two sizes (IR2 1300W and IR3 1950W) and boasts a 5-year warranty.
