infrared pilates using Herschel Infrared heaters to warm the studio to desired temperatures

Why Infrared Pilates Is the Hottest Trend in Wellness and Fitness Right Now

Infrared heating has long been recognised for its health and wellness benefits, traditionally used in baby incubators and saunas. And now infrared heating is gaining increasing momentum in the fitness space; hot yoga is already well-established and continues to grow both in the UK and internationally and the latest trend to hit the fitness scene is….. infrared Pilates.

Thanks to 11:11 Yoga for the photo showcasing Herschel Aspect XL heaters.

Unlike conventional convection heating, infrared heat warms the body directly, penetrating deeper into muscles and tissues. This promotes greater flexibility, improved circulation, and supports recovery post exercise. The far infrared wavelength is especially effective, as it is the wavelength most readily absorbed by the human body, mirroring the natural heat we both emit and absorb. The 8 – 12 micron waveband of the Far Infrared is often referred to as the “Vital” range because of its vital warming properties, of human comfort and biological significance.

Typical temperatures used in heat-based yoga and pilates classes range between 32C up to 40.5C and infrared heaters offer the ideal heating solution to reach these temperatures quickly and consistently. Not only does infrared offer efficiency in the way it delivers these high temperatures, by not wasting energy heating the surrounding air, the enhanced benefits of infrared come from the infrared warming up people directly. By combining infrared heat with the practices of yoga and pilates, muscles are physically warmed allowing for an enhanced  range of movement to maximise the benefits from this ancient practice.

As research into the broader health effects of infrared continues, the rising popularity of infrared-based workouts like hot yoga and infrared pilates speaks for itself. Reported benefits also include improved core strength, muscle pain relief, improved mood and increased metabolism amongst others – with all contributing to both physical and mental wellbeing and supporting overall health from the inside out.

We cannot wait to get to another infrared pilates and hot yoga class!

Sustainable Energy Association's 2025 Annual Parliamentary Reception at the House of Lords

SEA Executive Membership to Promote a Decarbonised Infrared Future

Ensuring Infrared has a Seat at the Main Table

We are delighted to be strengthening our existing relationship with the Sustainable Energy Association (SEA) by becoming an Executive Member.  We hope to continue to work closely with the SEA to evolve policy solutions and ensure infrared is one of the key technologies available to UK consumers and businesses.

Herschel Strengthens it's Existing Relationship with the SEA

“As the UK’s market leaders in the manufacture and supply of electric infrared heating, we are delighted to be strengthening our involvement and relationship with the SEA by becoming an executive member.

Infrared heating is an established technology with a key role to play in the decarbonisation of heat. The SEA’s role in promoting an agnostic approach and range of different heating technologies, including infrared, is critical in meeting key targets for this energy transition. We are excited to be working closely with the SEA to evolve and develop policy solutions and ensure infrared is one of the key technologies available to UK consumers and businesses.” Matthew Dodds, Director – Commercial Division, Herschel Infrared

Joining Forces to Shape the Future of Sustainable Energy

We were also invited to attend the SEA’s 2025 Annual Parliamentary Reception at the House of Lords, which provided a brilliant opportunity to come together and discuss what we must prioritise to help expand the sustainable energy sector and discuss the SEA’s 2025 policy agenda. Attended by Richard Martin and Matthew Dodds on behalf of Herschel, it was fantastic to hear from Dave Sowden, Daniel Mosley, Lord Ravensdale and Selvin Brown and meet with stakeholders and industry experts, including Professor Richard Fitton from Salford University.

The Sustainable Energy Association’s 2025 policy aims to encourage energy bill savings by rewarding in-use performance of energy efficiency measures, rather than focusing solely on the initial installation as the Government’s current grant structure does. The incentive will also create offerings for underserved market segments, particularly the able-to-pay and private-rented sectors, alongside tackling fuel poverty.

Herschel Strengthens it's Existing Relationship with the SEA at the 2025 Annual Parliamentary Reception at the House of Lords
Image shows Dave Sowden, CEO SEA (left), and Herschel Director – Commercial Division, Matthew Dodds (right)

“[It] felt like a coming of age to be part of a sustainable energy focussed meeting in the Houses of Parliament, with policy makers; industry influencers, academics, housing groups and suppliers such as ourselves, where there were numerous shout-outs during the speeches to: a technology agnostic approach to heating; Infrared Heating as one such a proposition and then specifically a couple of times to Herschel Infrared.”

[It was] very interesting also to hear David Sowden of SEA launch their new Energy Efficiency Incentive, which aims to improve energy efficiency investment by turning the existing models of up-front subsidies and payments, which tend to artificially stimulate markets which are otherwise not fully clear or affordable in their own right (and which harm the markets if those subsidies are also then removed), in favour of switching to rewards for in-use energy efficiency measures which could make eligibility fairer; certainly makes ‘delivery of benefits’ much more of a factor and should also help ensure all the main actors (investors; market makers; suppliers; consumers) are in it for the long term. Richard Martin, Technical Development Director, Herschel Infrared

Image shows Professor Richard Fitton, Salford University (left), Dave Sowden, CEO SEA (middle), and Herschel Technical Development Director, Richard Martin (right)

[Some] other key points raised were on the rebalancing of the electricity and gas pricing taking levies off electricity and the need for this and the SEA mentioning that the approach to Net Zero should also not forget the Non-Domestic side of the heating market, which is something I am keen to push as this is such a key part of the market for us as well. Matthew Dodds, Director – Commercial Division, Herschel Infrared

Sarah Beeny with Herschel Halo at Stokeford Studios

Heating Sarah Beeny’s project, Stokeford Studios, with Halo

Meeting Sarah Beeny

Last November, Herschel visited Stokeford Studios, UK, to discuss heating Sarah Beeny’s latest project – a sustainable barn redevelopment that will be used primarily as a tv and film studio.  Sarah was specifically looking for an efficient solution for heating people occupying the large gallery space. The redevelopment also has a large solar array.

Heating Sarah Beeny

Our team were thrilled to meet Sarah, the TV property and development expert, and subsequently recommended Herschel’s Halo heater to warm the space. Fitting Sarah’s brief of sustainability, the Herschel Halo infrared heater is manufactured in the UK and has been specially designed to minimise embodied carbon and maximise recyclability, using British steel and no hazardous components.

The Halo utilises far infrared that delivers heat to people directly, in precise zones, rather than needing to heat the entire space. Heating in this way will ensure a highly efficient solution that is ideal for Sarah’s gallery, where people will often be sitting still for long periods.

“So, this is a massive studio, and this is the gallery where people will sit on computers watching things being made and of course they’re going to be still, you can’t heat all this space because it would cost an absolute fortune. I thought I’d try infrared heating because I’ve been interested in that for a while and you can get these amazing infrared – sort of halos – which they use a lot in churches, so they not only have lights but also, they have heating elements, which means that they directly heat the objects and not the space itself. So up here, where it might be really cold, this would be the perfect place for one”. Sarah Beeny.

A Bespoke Halo Design for Sarah Beeny

The Halo heater can also incorporate lighting with the option to tailor the finished design with bespoke colour and decoration to complement the interior. The specific Halo designed for heating Sarah Beeny’s studio features dimmable LED lights plus a bespoke logo design and a bronze finish. The lights can be controlled separately from the heating and the Halo is installed alongside a 3-button smart switch which enables 3 power levels.

Sarah Beeny discusses the Halo Warmth and Solar

Sarah Beeny showcases the Halo heater on her instagram account – watch the moment here where Sarah switches on the Halo (with lights) and feels the warmth.

“We have lights.  And, here, I’m going to turn the heating on. So, you just press these buttons.  It’s now got three lots of heating so it’s full whack heat.  And, oh, I can feel it already! That’s so quick!  Look at that. Not only a thing of beauty, but also brilliant engineering. And it actually works!  And it’s running on a solar………This is brilliant”. Sarah Beeny.
