Background
Heating a New Build Extension
In a recent episode of Channel 4’s ‘Extraordinary Extensions’, the spotlight shone on a 1960s Essex home undergoing an extension retrofit. Among their modern upgrades, the homeowners wanted to move away from gas, instead looking for a heating solution that aligned with their vision of having a future proof home which could be powered using renewables.
Solution
Herschel Infrared panels were chosen as the heating solution for this project, heating a new build extension. Working closely with our Sales team, the panels the homeowners decided to go with were our traditional White infrared panels along with the sleek grey XLS Round panels.
Fitting seamlessly into their modern extension, the Herschel Infrared panels were mounted on the ceiling, keeping them out of reach and freeing up additional wall space.
The extension had solid concrete flooring throughout as well as high ceilings in some areas. To heat this space 2 x 1100W White panels, 2 x 400W Grey Round panels, and 1 x 600W White panel were installed, along with 2 x Wired thermostats and a PIR Motion Sensor.
Feedback from the customer has been very positive, commenting that it not only heats the space quickly, but also stays warm, highlighting the comfortable warmth our infrared panels has provided.
Simon is continuing with his renovation project, and is planning to install further Herschel Infrared panels in the dormer extension. The modern renovation also features a Colorado patio heater on Simon’s gorgeous terrace, to take the chill away on evenings spent outdoors.
Testimonial
“Heating the objects not the air is a big win!”
The panels are very warm and it doesn’t take long to heat the space (and stay warm). With 5 metres to the highest point of the extension, heating the objects not the air is a big win! The plan was and is to future proof the house with a move to electric which can eventually be run (along with all other appliances) via solar etc.
