Herschel Infrared showcasing ir heating solutions in Wales

Decarbonising Homes – Infrared Heating Showcase to Welsh Government and Social Housing Providers

On 29 January 2026, the team from Herschel Infrared was proud to showcase their latest heating innovations to representatives across the Welsh Government, local councils and social housing providers in Swansea. The event created a vital space for collaboration between innovators and decision-makers and explored how infrared heating technology can play a transformative role in decarbonising Welsh homes.

The event, hosted by Talan, took place at Dr. Bruce Philip’s cutting edge testing facility in Baglan. Dr. Bruce Philip, Technology Transfer Fellow at Swansea University, shared insights into his pioneering testing work that evaluates infrared heating technologies.  Herschel Infrared is proud to have part-funded the facility that is built in accordance with IEC 60675 test standards for radiant efficiency. The Swansea facility aligns with infrared heating test facilities that are already established in Germany and the Netherlands.

Innovations from Herschel Infrared

Herschel CEO, Paul Morey (above right), and Amy Howells, Business Development Manager for South West and South Wales (above left), attended the Infrared Heating Wales event. The team enjoyed showcasing some of our newest infrared heating innovations to representatives from housing associations and social housing providers across Wales.  Infrared heating provides a versatile, simple to install and control, zero maintenance solution for social landlords and tenants. Infrared heating provides additional benefits of warming surfaces and people directly, rather than heating the air. This helps to reduce condensation, damp and mould, and is just one of the reasons why infrared heating provides the ideal heating system for social housing and housing associations.

Improving Social Housing

The event came at a pivotal moment for Welsh social housing, following the announcement that Wales’s flagship Optimised Retrofit Programme will receive an additional £99 million in funding. This additional funding will unlock further opportunities for social landlords to invest in low carbon improvements for homes across Wales.

Collaboration, innovation and momentum in Wales’s journey towards low carbon, future-ready homes

It was fantastic to showcase the benefits of infrared heating and discuss how infrared provides the ideal solution for social housing. Herschel was also proud to show some of its pioneering new infrared heating developments that will be launching later this year.

With a focus on decarbonising homes and commercial buildings and creating healthier living environments, the Infrared Heating Wales event marked another step forward in our ongoing commitment to shaping better policy and gaining greater support for low carbon heating.

Church of England Sustainability Officer Visits Herschel Halo Production

It was our great pleasure to welcome Adrian Fox, Church of England Environment and Sustainability Officer, to our Herschel production facility in Bristol last week to showcase our pioneering Halo heritage heating solutions. Having specified our Halo heaters for a substantial number of parishes within the Church of England, we valued the opportunity to provide Adrian with an insight into our heater manufacturing process and our market leading control solutions. Our skilled and dedicated team showcased all processes involved, from precision design and laser-cutting to welding and meticulous handcraftsmanship that completes the final build.

“I had a very positive and informative afternoon, thank you. I’m impressed with the care and attention applied to the products, but more so the desire to learn and adapt it to meet this niche market’s needs. My visit just reinforced my belief that you have a premium product and are a premium supplier”. – Adrian Fox.

St Chads Church delivering energy efficient heating with Halo

Significant Energy Savings from Herschel Halo: St Chads Church

A fantastic new Halo case study is available for St Chad’s Church, in Bradford. St Chad’s Church, a Grade II listed building built in 1912-14, had nine Halo heaters installed in 2023.

We are thrilled to share a detailed video which discusses feedback from St Chad’s Church, including the significant savings on energy bills since Halo and the Halos suitability to work within the restrictions imposed by its listed status.

The video includes details of the significant savings in heating costs from Halo over the previous system. Monthly running costs, using January as a comparative both pre and post Halo, are:

January 2021: £1,600 (previous heating system through a mix of gas and electric)

January 2024: £455 (Halo system)

A huge monthly saving of £1,135, equating to approximately £8000 over the full winter season.

The video also showcases the Halo heaters in-situ and how their appearance echoes the circular light fittings from 1915, delivering a solution that is not only sensitive to the history of St Chad’s but also complements its heritage aesthetic.

In addition, hear about the Herschel heritage specification process and how we deliver a sustainable, energy-efficient and effective comfort heating solution for churches.

infrared pilates using Herschel Infrared heaters to warm the studio to desired temperatures

Why Infrared Pilates Is the Hottest Trend in Wellness and Fitness Right Now

Infrared heating has long been recognised for its health and wellness benefits, traditionally used in baby incubators and saunas. And now infrared heating is gaining increasing momentum in the fitness space; hot yoga is already well-established and continues to grow both in the UK and internationally and the latest trend to hit the fitness scene is….. infrared Pilates.

infrared pilates using Herschel Infrared heaters to warm the studio to desired temperatures

Thanks to 11:11 Yoga for the photo showcasing Herschel Aspect XL heaters.

Unlike conventional convection heating, infrared heat warms the body directly, penetrating deeper into muscles and tissues. This promotes greater flexibility, improved circulation, and supports recovery post exercise. The far infrared wavelength is especially effective, as it is the wavelength most readily absorbed by the human body, mirroring the natural heat we both emit and absorb. The 8 – 12 micron waveband of the Far Infrared is often referred to as the “Vital” range because of its vital warming properties, of human comfort and biological significance.

Typical temperatures used in heat-based yoga and pilates classes range between 32C up to 40.5C and infrared heaters offer the ideal heating solution to reach these temperatures quickly and consistently. Not only does infrared offer efficiency in the way it delivers these high temperatures, by not wasting energy heating the surrounding air, the enhanced benefits of infrared come from the infrared warming up people directly. By combining infrared heat with the practices of yoga and pilates, muscles are physically warmed allowing for an enhanced  range of movement to maximise the benefits from this ancient practice.

As research into the broader health effects of infrared continues, the rising popularity of infrared-based workouts like hot yoga and infrared pilates speaks for itself. Reported benefits also include improved core strength, muscle pain relief, improved mood and increased metabolism amongst others – with all contributing to both physical and mental wellbeing and supporting overall health from the inside out.

We cannot wait to get to another infrared pilates and hot yoga class!
